Increasing research shows that the products that we use can influence the development of breast cancer cells. As we continue to use these products, the incidence of breast cancer in women has risen. In 2019, there were an estimated 3,771,794 women living with female breast cancer in the United States. Black women are at a 42% higher risk of developing breast cancer than white women, including under the age of 45. Today, we have the privilege of speaking to Tiah Tomlin-Harris, a Community Board Advisor for our friends at Bench to Community. Bench to Community’s mission is to develop community and policy interventions that reduce exposure of harmful chemicals from personal care products and perceived breast cancer risk for Black people.Tiah is also the co-founder of MY STYLE MATTERS INC, a grassroots 501c3 nonprofit organization that is dedicated to educating and providing support to underserved and disadvantaged communities impacted by cancer. Tiah is a breast cancer survivor. She is going to share her story with us and discuss the implications of black girls and breast cancer risk from a survivor’s perspective.
