Welcome to season 2, episode 40 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast.
This week my guest is Shaan Keegan, Director and Founder of Sisterhood SA. She is Zooming in all the way from South Africa for this episode.
Shaan shares about an issue many are not talking about. You cannot stop biology whether you are rich or living in poverty. Many women in South Africa and beyond struggle to get the necessary sanitary products they need for their monthly period. These products can be quite costly. Shaan created a kit that is distributed to those in poverty-stricken areas. It provides underwear, pads of different sizes, and the soap to rewash them. Unfortunately, disposable products are very costly.
Shaan also created an educational program that she shares in schools and in the community that speaks to how both girl's and boys' bodies change during puberty, transmittable diseases, and overall health.
