From Grief to Growth (Interview Part 2): Language, Culture, and Trust in the World of Grief
Manage episode 456011774 series 3595452
In Part 2 of my conversation with Deb Bedula, we explore some of the less talked about aspects of grief…the words we use, the cultural traditions we come from, and the trust we build with others can all play a big role in how we experience and express grief.
We talk about how language can be both comforting and hurtful, why men sometimes feel like they need to grieve in private, and how different communities have unique approaches to grieving. We also touch on why certain groups may feel reluctant to seek out formal grief support—and how creative expression through art and writing can be a meaningful outlet especially when words don’t feel right.
Listen in as we explore:
- Words that connect vs. words that hurt
- The role of culture in grief
- Grieving as a man
- Finding trust in grief support
- Creative outlets in grief
Whether you’re grieving yourself or supporting someone who is, I hope you’ll come away with a fresh perspective and some new ideas for navigating the grieving process.
