Joining via zoom from CA is Drake, a current Fire Fighter Paramedic, who's whole family is fire fighters or in the first responder community. Drake began doing fire ride alongs at 12 years old, become a fire explorer shortly after, and started with Cal Fire at 18 years old.
Drake shared a dark time in his life following a line of duty death during a tragic fire in Northern CA, which resulted in serious stress following the incident. After a few months of struggling, Drake considered dying by suicide, but thankfully did not go through with the act. Drake attended the West Coast Post Trauma Retreat in California and talked about the high leveling the retreat and the challenges of maintaining that high after returning to work.
Drake wrote an article which was published in the Firehouse Magazine after he was tasked with leading a crew during a large fire and had to perform in a new position. Drake stated his instagram page Almost Truckies to have fun within the fire service community and help his mental health.
