Welcome to The Art of Medicine, the program that explores the arts, business, and clinical aspects of the practice of medicine. I’m your host, Dr. Andrew Wilner.

Today, I have the pleasure of speaking with Jon Appino, Principal and Founder of Contract Diagnostics. Jon’s been running Contract Diagnostics for more than 10 years, helping physicians analyze and negotiate their contracts with respect to salary, benefits, and covenants.

Jon grew up in a medical family. In college, he was a biology and biochemistry major and pre-med. Ultimately, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to pursue medically-related business opportunities rather than attending medical school.

In this episode, we discuss Jon’s motivation and approach to helping physicians achieve the most favorable business contracts. He has had experience with literally thousands of physician contracts. During our discussion, Jon addresses critical features of both locum tenens and permanent contracts.

It’s been my experience that when push comes to shove at the workplace, it’s what written in the contract that really matters.

Please watch our 40-minute discussion to hear how John can help determine whether your contract is fair or could be improved. Jon insists that every physician has a “story,” and each contract must be individualized.

Jon is a big fan of “The Art of Medicine,” which I really appreciate!
