· Learn your stepchild’s love language & put it on a scale. Instead of a bear hug for the child whose love language is physical touch, choose a fist-bump. Honor and respect their level of comfort with you.

· Respect the story of the child you’re trying to connect with. Be patient, persistent, continue to be present.
