Statement of Need
The declaration of the COVID-19 global pandemic from the World Health Organization in March 2020, resulted in new concerns for pregnant women. Pregnant women have had increased risk of severe maternal and neonatal morbidity from similar viral diseases. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was unknown what the effects of COVID-19 would be on pregnancy. Additionally, with the launch of the COVID-19 vaccine, the effects of this on the mother and unborn child were unknown. Providers were unclear as to how to advise patients. This program will provide the latest recommendations and research highlights regarding prenatal care and the efficacy and risk of the COVID-19 vaccine; as well as updates in the treatment of pregnant patients with COVID-19. Additionally, the risk factors for severe COVID-19 will be discussed. Following this program, providers should have the latest information on how to advise their pregnant patients as well as those who are considering pregnancy.
