When a loved one is struggling with addiction, the responsibility to help them heal oftentimes falls on their partner or parent. This guilt and shame of the addiction or the failed relationship can be overwhelming and leaving their loved ones with a heavy burden. Author Dana Killion knows this struggle all too well. In her debut memoir, Where the Shadows Dance: He Got Sober. I Got Broken, (Amplify Publishing, May 2023) Killion shares her own experience of trying to save her husband from addiction, and the toll that it took on her life. She describes the sacrifices she made as a "fixer," the guilt that ensued, and the ways in which she enabled her husband's addiction without even realizing it.
