  1. Montgomery, G.H., David, D., Winkel, G., Silverstein, J.H., & Bovbjerg, D.H. (2007): This meta-analysis of 18 studies examined the effectiveness of hypnosis, including self-hypnosis, in reducing pain across various clinical settings. The results indicated significant pain reduction, demonstrating the potential of hypnosis as a non-pharmacological pain management tool.
  2. Jensen, M.P., Adachi, T., & Hakimian, S. (2016): This research focused on the impact of hypnosis on chronic pain. Using functional MRI, the study found that hypnosis led to significant pain reduction and was associated with changes in brain regions related to pain processing, such as the anterior cingulate cortex and thalamus. These findings support the use of hypnosis in chronic pain management.
  3. Lynn, S.J., Malaktaris, A., Maxwell, R., & Meyer, E. (2010): This study highlighted the potential of hypnosis to enhance therapeutic outcomes in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). By facilitating cognitive restructuring and promoting positive suggestions, hypnosis was shown to be a valuable adjunct to traditional CBT techniques, improving overall treatment efficacy.
