The middle east is not only an area of diversity and brisk transformations, it is also a region where cardiovascular diseases are rampant. Traditional risk factors for atherosclerotic disease are more prevalent than most regions around the globe; In the middle east, one in five will have either diabetes, obesity, hypertension, or smoking. Dyslipidemia, which is a recognized cause of atherosclerosis, is even more common. Dr. Sabbour is a colleague and friend. He has six American Board Certifications: Internal Medicine, General cardiology, Electrophysiology, Advanced Heart failure and Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. He is currently Staff Physician in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. He is a co-principal investigator in the Gulf Familial Hyperlipidemia Registry and naturally, he is one of the authors of this consensus clinical recommendation.
