Social media activism through movements such as #blacklivesmatter #freepalestine #metoo has gained support for good causes but in the same vein, it may have also caused uproars in certain corners of society. Our convo over the braai reveals that social media is susceptible to false information and highjacking by detractors. How do we spread the awareness without causing more damage? How do we guarantee that the message received is as understood as it was sent? Are celebrities obliged to spread awareness through social media and join their fans in protest?
