Well, we have rounded the 60 episode bend, here at The Way-Back Music Machine. On episode 61 we take a look at one day, July 12, through rock and roll history.

We start in Memphis, where a 19 year old truck driver signs a contract with a little label with a big history. No one knows it at the time, but this changes the course of music and fashion for all time.

A bunch of lads in Liverpool, who are currently in a Skiffle band, will take notice of the singer from Memphis in the years to come, but right now, they are still kind of a skiffle band, and in 1956, they head down to a local 'recording studio' and record a single, 10 inch 78 rpm disc. This group will later change members and their name and, also change the course of history.

Fast forward to 1962, and a band is making their debut performance in a London club. This band will be championed by The Beatles and go on to their own fame and fortune,

Finally, also in 1962, an unlikely artist performs his style of country and western, and not only has a number one album but a number one single.
