“That’s the problem, you live a fake life that doesn’t exist and its dangerous”- Oliver Hills speaking on how social medias gives anyone the ability to create a fake persona, which unfortunately results in unrealistic goals for the aspiring businessmen and women.
From Heinz Baked Beans on Weetabix to Bernie Sanders in a chair. Today Oliver gives us his thoughts and opinions on the importance of social media and shining light on the many big companies acknowledging the usefulness of social media platforms.
Oliver Hills originally started out his career in Finance. Growing up Oliver explains how he lived a very normal childhood, however, on the weekends him and his family took trips down to the ports to go on his grandad’s yacht. Being in that environment as a young child he soon took a strong interest in his surroundings, questioning how all these people were able to afford the luxury cars and yachts. Discovering that majority of these people had finance careers, leading to the result of Oliver going into finance years later. Eventually moving into a completely different industry, setting up his own company Updates Media which is now known as Nonsensical.
Today we get an insider of how to market through social media, speaking on the massive platform that is Tik Tok. Presenting reasons why more businesses should be genuine on social media and start valuing the free platforms out there that can potentially lead to sales. Mentioning anyone can go viral with just one video, hence why Tik Tok will continue to thrive, especially more so now that brands and businesses have figured out they can advertise on the platform and it can potentially receive up to 2.2 Billion views (Zach King’s “Harry Potter Illusion” video being currently the most viewed Tik Tok).
We also dive into the future of paid content and advertising, looking into the many creators that are promoting paid for content (such as Only Fans). Not only that we hear about the potential threat to online advertising as the Government are pushing for Facebook and Google to pay UK media companies for news articles hosted on their platforms. Along with the potential future of social media companies implementing an ID verification for accounts to deter anonymous racist activity and discrimination.
