“If we march into that village and we start trying to persecute people for using poison, something that's very illegal, nobody's going to talk to us. We're not going to find out where the poison came from. We're not going to be able to shut anything down. We should take the approach that people are using poison because they're desperate, because they see no other alternative.” – Andrew Stein Andrew Stein is a wildlife ecologist who spent the past 25 years studying human carnivore conflict from African wild dogs and lions in Kenya and Botswana to leopards and hyenas in Namibia. His work has long focused on finding ways for people and predators to coexist. He is the founder of CLAWS , an organization based in Botswana that's working at the intersection of cutting-edge wildlife research and community driven conservation. Since its start in 2014 and official launch as an NGO in 2020, CLAWS has been pioneering science-based, tech-forward strategies to reduce conflict between people and carnivores. By collaborating closely with local communities, especially traditional cattle herders, CLAWS supports both species conservation and rural livelihoods—making coexistence not just possible, but sustainable.…

This is a fun show by two IT sales reps trying to add some color to the DMR [Direct Market Reseller] world. In it they interview customers and prospect clients on good IT planning and implementation strategies. Enjoy this episode with Joey Andrews. He is the IT Director over at Arkadelphia School District. When did you get interested in technology? Back in college in the 80's Joey began to get interested in technology. He started at Arkadelphia School District back in 2005. When he first started the district had Pentium III's and Windows 98! I remember those days as a gamer in highschool. What hobbies do you have besides deploying systems and implementing switches? Joey likes to hunt and fish. He also enjoys watching his kids play baseball. Star Wars or Star Trek? And Why? Star Trek! Because Star Trek is based on a human future. Current / new technology you like: Joey like their new chromebooks although they have apple too. However, he is not a fan of Apple because of the price and difficulty managing them with active directory. Best IT moves of 2014-2015 YTD? Getting a 'Metro Area Network' and switching to fiber for bandwidth. The school is going to 500 Megs of bandwidth this year [good for a school in Arkansas with 2,000 students]. He also is glad he went with Aerohive for their wireless network although he states that xirrus wireless is a bit easier to program. Biggest Lesson learned? If Joey was able to go back to himself 10 years ago right when he started he would have told himself to not go to a 1-1 initiative [New Tech] until he had been able to fully implement a wireless system. His recommendation is to have 1 AP to classroom [1 AP : 15 Clients runs the best]. He says that you also need to watch out for cable companies that will be over redundant on the amount of cable you need. What brands do you like and why? Joey has used HP, Lenovo, and Dell. His favorite manufacturer for client is Dell. If you were on a tropical island and could only bring 1 piece of technology – what would it be and why? Joey would bring his Dell Laptop - that is all he really needs. He would watch YouTube and Netflix. GO TO http://techtalkinterviews.com/techtalk003/ to see the funny video short from this interview. This is a fun show by two IT sales reps trying to add some color to the DMR [Direct Market Reseller] world. In it they interview customers and prospect clients on good IT planning and implementation strategies. SHOW NOTES This is a Tech Talk Interview with your hosts Trip Nine and John Giordano. Enjoy our second episode with Chris Mahoney and one of his tech's, Zach over at Lake Hamilton School District. When did you get interested in technology? Chris got started as a mac guy in the education department over at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Lake Hamilton School District snagged him in 1996 to help with a million dollar mac deployment. He has been there ever since. Zach graduated from high school in 2008. His grandfather inspired him to go into technology. He promptly went to college to learn about computers; and ended up at Lake Hamilton School District shortly after. What hobbies do you have besides deploying systems and implementing switches? Zach: Hunting and fishing, video games, hang out with his kids. Chris: He likes to take his sailboat out on Lake Ouachita. And he hope to retire down in the Carribean one day. #mentions: 6 days 7 nights, Captain Ron Star Wars or Star Trek? And Why? Zach: Star Wars: Grew up with it and his parents liked it. Chris: He likes both but if had to pick one, it would be Star Trek. Current / new technology you like: iWatch :) Mac vs. PC [Listen in] #mentions: grants, android, iPads, Chromebooks, Best IT moves of 2014-2015 YTD? Lake Hamilton has found a more efficient way to image their machines: 'Fog' Imaging Software. They had been using Symantec Ghost to image their machines but it was taking a whole day to do a lab. Now using Fog, they can do a whole lab in a hour! Wow. What brands do you like and why? Chris is a MAC guy. Zach is a PC and Android guy. Biggest Frustration going into 2015-16 School Year? Logistical bottle necks with PC deliveries. Smaller Budget but still the same IT demands. If you were on a tropical island and could only bring 1 piece of technology – what would it be and why? Chris would take a satellite phone [plus a knife, iPhone]. Zach would take a satellite phone too [plus fire starter]. This is a fun show by two IT sales reps trying to add some color to the DMR [Direct Market Reseller] world. In it they interview customers and prospect clients on good IT planning and implementation strategies. SHOW NOTES "This is a Tech Talk Interview with your hosts Trip Nine and John Giordano." Enjoy our first episode with our good friend and customer Darrell Parks. He is the IT Director over at Hoxie School District. When did you get interested in technology? @ age 13 when 20 GB was the largest hard drive capacity one could afford, Darrell was at a garage sale with his grandmother and bought his first computer. What hobbies do you have besides deploying systems and implementing switches? Racing Miada's, there is a local Miata club that Darrell is apart of. Darrell has done racing, drifting, and has a blast with his club. "You got to have a way to take off the stress". This is a good way. Darrell is also a gamer, first big game he liked was Starcraft. Star Wars or Star Trek? And Why? Star Trek! Star Wars has used the green screen too much. Who do you think would win in a battle – Star Trek or Star Wars? Check out http://gizmodo.com/who-would-win-in-an-all-out-battle-star-wars-or-star-t-1676075613 and comment below :) Current / new technology you like: Darrell likes the new intel Widi technology [display cast technology]. Listen in to find out why. Best IT moves of 2014-2015 YTD? Hoxie like any school deals with software updates a lot. In the past they would get the updates and put them on the server [it was time consuming]. They switched to a product called Ninite which helped a lot with the time consuming factor of the updates. Hoxie is also moving to Cat6 connections to increase their network speed. This is another win for the district. Biggest Lesson learned? Hoxie IT is a well run shop. Darrell’s advice is to just make sure you are keeping your teachers happy :) The way that he looks at it is he is running a business within a business – he needs to keep his customers [the teachers] happy so everyone will be happy. What brands do you like and why? Darrell has worked with Lenovo for a long time so it seemed like a natural fit when he moved over to his position at Hoxie. If you were on a tropical island and could only bring 1 piece of technology – what would it be and why? After thinking about it, Darrell said He would bring over a high powered radio to call for help [love the practical mindedness]. :) GO TO http://techtalkinterviews.com/techtalk001/ to see the hilarious video shot we did from this interview.
