Following on from the previous installment, having mentioned the fundamentals of the 3 “R”s approach, in Part 2 of this episode I intend to focus in greater detail on the reinterpretation of ongoing narratives. That’s because, the 3 “R”s method is based on an explanatory approach which seeks to establish the cause and effect relationships that lead to specific events. It offers a more accurate analysis by offering reasons why a particular thing happened in an individual’s life, or is happening, as opposed to a descriptive approach.
However, the starting point in Part 2 is to understand the rationale behind the ‘Alternative Perspective’ by first exploring the concept of ‘perspectives.’ Good examples include, individual viewpoints or professional viewpoints. I will also introduce the concept of critical thinking and explain, why it carries importance in this podcast. Indeed the application of critical thinking is vital in helping to challenge pre-conceived beliefs, and is therefore conducive to creating an ‘Alternative Perspective.’
I will illustrate this, by providing relevant examples of critical thinking in relation to media bias and explain how ‘Alternative Perspectives’ can be created to combat the various forms of bias. One useful example is what I refer to as “the waterfall analogy.” Furthermore, in the final section I will explain the “transformative effect” which represents a central concept of the R3 Files Podcast. This refers to the process of renewal in our own lives by moving from one life stage to another, reminding us that growth and transformation (although traumatic) represent liberation from the Self through the interconnection of Endings and Beginnings.
