PostGame: Sooners Jekyll/Hyde but dominate Kent State 33-3| Defense looking solid, what's offense issue?| Scott Frost firing & how that changes OU/Neb game| Q&A from VIP'ers| HUGE recruiting weekend
Oklahoma started off with one of the worst first halves of football we have seen, offensively, in years for the Sooners. Oklahoma was able to salvage things behind Dillon Gabriel, Marvin Mims, Drake Stoops, Eric Gray, and Marcus Major, and on the defensive side, Oklahoma was led by Reggie Grimes, Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman, Jalen Redmond, and Justin Broiles.
After a 2-0 start, Brent Venables and Oklahoma are headed to Nebraska, where Scott Frost was fired, and WR coach Mickey Joseph was given the interim head coaching job. Will that have a huge impact on how things go from here on out for Nebraskas, and most specifically, the Sooners game this weekend? If so, how will it impact things?
What do we expect from OU this week vs Nebraska? Standouts from OU/Kent State game? Q&A questions answered from OUinsider VIP members on the podcast, and Brandon and Parker dive into the HUGE recruiting weekend and where things stand with OU targets like five-star DB Peyton Bowen, four-star DB Ryan Yaites, and four-star DL Jordan Renaud (only official visitor this weekend).
Topic TimeStamps:
00:00- Podcast intro
02:30 - Oklahoma's Jekyll and Hyde start, but they figured it out and dominated Kent State| Weird how getting elite WR Marvin Mims a lot of looks helps the Sooenrs' offense take off!
08:00 - Sooners' defense doing their thing under Brent Venables after two games, but the biggest test on D is coming up this week in Lincoln.
14:00 - Age of offense over in college football? Brandon and Parker show how a game like this is very similar to how OU opened up in years they had two of the more dominant teams in program history? What are the comparisons? How are they are compared? Do games like this matter as the year moves along? Help?
25:30 - Players that we got to see more and that we noted in VIP pregame notes| Bdrumm's predicted players of the game and how that ended up?| What were their players of the game not giving the obvious of Marvin Mims and Danny Stutsman?
33:00 - Thoughts on Sooners' defense after two games? Difference in this year's defense compared to past years, with same personnel?| Crowd and student section stand up! You all killed it! LED lights were awesome, and how that makes a difference on the atmosphere!
40:00 - Sooners hosted four-star DL Jordan Renaud on an official visit, so where do things stand? Still trending Bama?| Five-star DB Peyton Bowen on unofficial visit| Four-star DB Ryan Yaites on unofficial visit| Latest on them? More in-depth coming on OUinsider VIP| Four-star ATH Malachi Coleman and how Mickey Joseph being interim helps Nebraska, but is it enough?
49:00 - Scott Frost was fired from Nebraska, and how this changes things for the Cornhuskers on the field and recruiting trail?| Who are some coaches Brandon and Parker would go after as head coaches moving forward -- if they don't hire Mickey Joseph full-time.
1:12:00 - Q&A from OUinsider VIP'ers. Answered four or five questions that were non-recruiting and team oriented| Injured players status| OL issues and how they can be remedied? Second half showed how good the OL can be, but why inconsistencies?| Why the stale start? More to it? Will it be more of an issue moving forward and more!?
1:22:00 - Will OU be more complex on offense and defense moving forward? Brandon and Parker go in-depth on that!
