“Greatness is Serving, Not Being Served”
Matthew 20:20-28
The wisdom of this world and of our own human nature is that greatness comes from lording power over others and having them serve us, but Jesus calls us to a different way. Jesus teaches that true greatness comes from humility and service to others.
Different: The Way of Jesus
Jesus taught a different way of living and being, one that is often diametrically opposed to the wisdom and values of this world, as well as our own human nature. Yet, this is part of why the way of Jesus is so powerful and life-changing because it’s a call to take a completely different path in this life. During the season of Lent, we will focus on some of Jesus’ most counterintuitive teachings that make the way of Jesus so different.
