<第二回スクリプト>
R:Reid S:Saki(Interviewer)
S: Do you have anything that you don't like about Japan?
R: Do you have a lot of time?
S: Um...
R: Yes, there are things about Japan that I don't like.
S: Um...for example?
R: Well, Um...I think that because Japan is sort of like a mono culture. I see all the same kind of people.
Ah. You tend to have a lot of difficulty excepting people who are not like you. There's.
There's a tendency of Japanese people to to exclude people who are not Japanese based on what they look like.
I have a friend who is from Hawaii, and he is a second generation Japanese. And he finds a lot more acceptance in Japan than I do.
Just because he looks like you. Even though, his thinking patterns are completely American.
And this, this bothers me because even if I learn Japanese and I do everything that you do, I'm pushed out.
Because of what I look like. That is discriminatory. And it should not happen.
S: OK. So, what kind of behavior do you, uh, think Japanese people should do?
R: Well, I think that they should judge people based on their character, not based on what they look like.
And that is, probably the most bothersomething※ there is. I can belong to a community and join groups, I belong to a Shimin Mikoshi group, but there were times when I was excluded from their activities, because I was not Japanese and I've had people refuse to give me a place to live, because they were afraid dealing with non-Japanese.
I've had the people like police treat me in an unequal fashion because of what I look like.
Not just me, this happens to, you can ask just any, (quote)"foreigner" that lives in this country that they have to deal with discrimination.
And in this day and age Japanese people travel all over the world.
They meet people or they should meet people from many places, but it doesn't stop them from tightening up their little circle, and say "We Japanese do this, and you foreigners well, you stay up there."
And that needs to change if Japan wants to compete and cooperate in a global stage.
You want to sell your cars, and your electronics, your products to us, but you don't want to learn English, don't want to accept people from outside the country.
And that's a one sided biased point of view. And that needs to change if this country is going to progress.
S: Ok, thank you to answer my question.
R: You're welcome.
