If you've been a diligent saver, chances are good that you have a variety of assets in your name: cash, CDs, bonds, stocks, funds, retirement accounts, insurance products, a home, etc. At some point, though, you'll no longer be around and those assets will wind up going to your designated heirs.
And while everyone likes to receive money in any way they can, it would certainly be a lot better if they did so under the most favorable conditions possible, from both an income tax and an ease-of-transfer standpoint. So this creates the question: if you're going to leave money to someone after you die, how do you set up your portfolio to make it easy and cost-effective?
