Former CEO of Oracle and other brands, Dan Silberberg, believes that being a C-Suite leader is, in the words of the Hero’s Journey, a Call to Adventure, to embark on a quest that challenges them and takes them out of their comfort zone. It takes courage and bravery, rigor and resilience.

In this episode, part 3 of a 6-part World-class Leader series, Dan connects Joseph Campbell's Hero’s Journey to the journey of a leader. All of the movies we love - Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings - are built off the plot framework of the Hero's Journey. Developing into a great leader parallels this Hero's Journey.

The Hero's Journey steps are:

1 Status quo

2 Call to Adventure

3 Refusal of the Call

4 Meeting the Mentor

5 Crossing the Threshold

6 Tests, allies, enemies

7 Approach to the inmost cave

8 The Abyss

9 The reward

10 The return

===

Internally we all have these parts - the controller, the critic, the judge, the provocateur, the fear-based part.

And this journey is really the discovery of all of that; and all of it is acceptable. All of it should be loved, be accepted and celebrated. That's who we are as human beings.

===

As your coach, my job is to show I care, that I'm heart centered, that the process is done with goodwill and with psychological safety.

===

Fill in the blank, “If you really knew me . . . " Most people will tell you the good things, but they wouldn't tell you the bad, because they fear you would judge them, you'd abandon them, you wouldn't like them, you'd be unacceptable.

We all have parts of ourselves we think are unacceptable. In point of fact, it's sharing those that makes vulnerability and intimacy.

===

This is how passionate it is to be on this journey. And what a privilege it is to be with others willing to risk at the same time. This is what really makes this Leader Council starting soon. Your journey will continue and this group of allies will be supportive.
