Summary: A truly grateful heart will always produce a generous life.

Text: Luke 10:25-37

INTRODUCTION : The lawyer wanted to know who he HAD to love, and who he DIDN’T HAVE to

love. Who is my neighbor? Anyone whose need you see.Generosity is about people, let's meet them.

I. THE MISERABLE MAN – 10:30

Luke 10:30 (NLT) Jesus replied with a story: “A Jewish man was traveling from

Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him

of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road.

- The wounded are all around us ... we need to see them.

II. THE TERRIBLE THIEVES – 10:30

Luke 10:30 (NLT). Jesus replied with a story: “A Jewish man was traveling from

Jerusalem down to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him

of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road.

- We must recognize the true enemy!

III. THE PASSING PRIEST – 10:31

Luke 10:31 (NLT)“By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man

lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by.

- He probably had many good reasons for not stopping:

IV. THE LOOKING LEVITE – 10:32

Luke 10:32 (NLT) A Temple assistant walked over and looked at him lying

there, but he also passed by on the other side.

- He had a RELIGION, but not a RELATIONSHIP.

V. THE SYMPATHETIC SAMARITAN – 10:33-35

Luke 10:33–35 (NLT) “Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he

saw the man, he felt compassion for him. 34Going over to him, the Samaritan

soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put

the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.35The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take

care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m

here.’

- WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A NEIGHBOR?

1.- Compassion – 10:33

2.- Contact – 10:34

3.- Care – 10:34.

4.- Commitment – 10:35

The big question:

Luke 10:36–37 (NLT) “Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to

the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. 37The man replied, “The one

who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.”
