In ‘Peter’s Decision’, Rick looks at Peter’s declaration that Jesus is the Christ and the implications of truly following Him. He focuses on several themes: The Identity of Jesus – Peter’s recognition of Jesus as the Christ is a pivotal moment in the Gospel of Mark.– “Christ” is not a surname but a title meaning “Anointed One,” referring to the Messiah who had been prophesied about to come and save God’s people.– Unlike the popular expectation of a political saviour, Jesus reveals that His mission involves suffering, rejection, and death. The Cost of Discipleship – Jesus rebukes Peter for thinking in human terms rather than God’s plan, which includes suffering before glory.– Jesus challenges His followers to take up their cross, deny themselves, and follow Him, even when the path is difficult.– The eternal value of the soul outweighs temporary material gain — “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” Personal Application – Like Peter, each person must decide who Jesus is for them.– True faith is not inherited but must be personally embraced.– The story of Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge illustrates the decision to stand firm in faith despite opposition and difficulty. Finally, Rick emphasises that following Jesus is not about ease or worldly success but about trusting in Him, even through suffering. The call is to make a personal decision to acknowledge Christ and live sacrificially for Him. The post Rick Robertson: Peter’s Decision first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

Phil looks at Jesus’ miracles, faith, and spiritual awareness, using Mark 8’s account of the feeding of the 4,000 as its central theme. Phil takes us through Jesus’ journey through different regions, including Gentile areas like Phoenicia and Decapolis, emphasising that Jesus’ miracles were not just about physical provision but also revealed spiritual truths. Jesus showed compassion and grace to Gentiles, challenging the Jewish belief that salvation was only for them. Phil urges us to have open eyes, ears, and hearts, warning against self-righteousness and religious complacency. He reminds us that even small acts of faith can lead to God doing miraculous work, inviting us to trust Jesus, step out in faith, and allow God to transform our lives. In Approaching Jesus, Dave looks at Mark 7: 24-37. Dave discusses two encounters Jesus had with Gentiles: 1. The Syrophoenician Woman – A desperate mother begs Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus initially responds with a parable comparing Gentiles to dogs, emphasising that His mission is first to the Jews. However, the woman humbly acknowledges this but persists, demonstrating great faith. Jesus rewards her faith by healing her daughter.2. The Deaf and Mute Man – Jesus heals a man by using physical gestures, showing sensitivity to his condition. After healing him, Jesus instructs people to keep quiet, but they eagerly spread the news. Dave emphasises how, like the Syrophoenician woman, we should persist in seeking Jesus, trusting in His goodness. Though Jesus’ mission began with Israel, His mercy extends to all who believe. He meets people where they are, serving their needs with love. The post Dave Frodsham: Approaching Jesus first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

Visiting speaker and “itinerant evangelist” Steve Hurd, former leader of the Ark Church in Huddersfield, on the importance of evangelism and inviting others to meet Jesus. Steve talks about how a persistent Church of England curate’s invitations to play squash sowed the seeds of his spiritual awakening and how another CoE curate’s persistence in inviting him to events eventually led to his faith. He talks also about how we can all be Albert McMakins. Don’t know who Albert McMakin is? Listen to this message and you will. Steve invites us to: 1. Identify people to invite to church or other events. 2. Follow up on invitations, even if the initial response is negative. 3. Spend time with non-Christian friends and look for opportunities to share the gospel. https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Steve-Hurd-The-Power-of-an-Invitation.mp3 The post Steve Hurd: The Power of an Invitation first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

In Working with a generous God, Rick considers the gospel of Mark, chapter 6 verses 30 to 44. This is the famous passage describing when Jesus miraculously provides for the crowd – ‘the feeding of the 5000’. In the message, Rick covers five key themes. God’s generosity – The miracle demonstrates that God not only provides but does so abundantly, as seen in the leftover baskets of food. Faith in Action – The disciples doubted at first, but Jesus involved them in the miracle by asking them to distribute the food. Hardness of Heart – The disciples failed to grasp the full significance of Jesus’ provision, as later shown when they struggled during a storm and did not connect it with the previous miracle (Mark 6:50-52). Practical Application – Rick encourages us to trust in God’s provision, step out in faith with what they have, and develop a heart that expects God’s generosity in daily life. Modern Examples – Rick references George Müller, a Christian evangelist known for his faith-based provision for orphans, emphasizing the power of specific prayers and trusting in God’s provision. Questions to consider How does the feeding of the 5,000 reveal God’s generosity, and how does this challenge the way we trust in His provision today? The disciples focused on what they lacked, while Jesus asked them to bring what they had. How can we shift our mindset from scarcity to faith in God’s abundance? Jesus chose to partner with the disciples in this miracle rather than acting alone. What does this tell us about the way God works in our lives and ministries? In John 6:32-35, 40 – Jesus points beyond physical provision to Himself as the Bread of Life. How can we grow in relying on Jesus for spiritual nourishment rather than just seeking solutions to our immediate needs? https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Rick-Robertson-Working-with-a-generous-God.mp3 The post Rick Robertson: Working with a generous God first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

Jubilee Church Wirral – Sunday messages

Dave looks at Mark 7: 1-23. He talks about how, during the COVID-19 pandemic, handwashing became a significant practice, with people learning proper techniques, such as washing for 20 seconds or using hand sanitiser. While initially seen as an imposed rule, it was ultimately beneficial for public health. Mark 7 is an account of a time when the Pharisees criticised Jesus’ disciples for not washing their hands before eating – but not because they were concerned about hygiene; the Pharisees’ concern was about religious tradition rather than true obedience to God. Jesus calls them hypocrites, quoting Isaiah, and pointing out that they prioritise human traditions over God’s commandments. External rituals do not make a person pure or impure; rather, it is what comes from the heart—evil thoughts and actions—that truly defile someone. This teaching shifts the focus from outward religious practices to inner transformation and righteousness. Dave challenges us to consider whether we are following religious traditions or truly seeking God with sincere hearts. Righteousness is not about rituals but about integrity, humility, and love for God and others. https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Dave-Frodsham-Lip-service.mp3 The post Dave Frodsham: Lip service first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

Chris looks at Mark 6:45-56 – Jesus walking on water. He focuses on three key points: Living on Prayer – Highlighting Jesus’ commitment to prayer and encouraging daily personal prayer as an essential, life-sustaining practice. God Doesn’t Need Google Maps – Illustrating that God knows exactly where we are and what we need, just as Jesus saw the struggling disciples before calming the storm. Faith: The Final Frontier – Contrasting the lack of faith in Jesus’ hometown with the deep faith of those in Gennesaret, where many were healed simply by touching his cloak https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Chris-Griffiths-February-9.mp3 The post Chris Griffiths: Walking on Sunshine first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

Visiting preacher Graham Webb of our sister church Jubilee Church Liverpool looks at Mark 6. Jesus is rejected in his hometown of Nazareth and sends the twelve disciples on mission. Graham highlights the contrast between the people’s lack of faith in Jesus and the disciples’ mission of faith and trust in God. Graham encourages us as Christians to embrace our mission with boldness, resilience, and trust in God’s plan. Rejection and challenges will come, but Jesus’ example teaches perseverance. Faith requires stepping out, even when the outcome is uncertain, because God is always with His people. https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Graham-Webb-January-2025.mp3 The post Graham Webb: Rejection first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

Rick looks at Mark 5:24-34, where Jesus heals a woman with a 12-year-long bleeding condition. He highlights four challenges she faced: prolonged illness, financial ruin, poverty, and worsening health. After she sought help from doctors to no avail, the woman’s desperation led her to Jesus, who healed her through her faith. Rick emphasises the importance of faith as a gift from God and encourages us to look for opportunities to help those “poor in spirit” and to bring them into a relationship with Jesus. https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Rick-Robertson-Faith-that-touches-heaven.mp3 The post Rick Robertson: Faith that touches heaven first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

In Perspectives, Phil Dickson looks at Mark 5: 21-43. Phil challenges our perceptions of who Jesus is in the context of Jesus’s divine authority and power to miraculously intervene in our lives. Phil draws illustration from the gospel of Mark chapter 5 and the different expectations of those in the lakeside town of Caperneum who witnessed the amazing miracle and rise to life of Jairus’s daughter. In Too Strong!, Dave Frodsham of Jubilee Church Wirral looks at Mark 5: 1-20. Dave talks about how we all feel fearful of change – the disciples certainly felt it in this passage – but that although the enemy is strong, Jesus is stronger. He urges us not to let fear run our lives, not to let the enemy in. We need to wear the armour of God . If there is anything more important than God in our lives, then that is our master. We need to be unafraid of change and rest in the knowledge and assurance that Jesus has power over all things. https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Dave-Frodsham-Too-Strong.mp3 The post Dave Frodsham: Too Strong! first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

In this Christmas message, Dave urges us not to remember Jesus as a baby in a manger, but as a powerful saviour who will come again to reign over all of us. Christmas is surrounded by expectations – some fulfilled, some not – but Jesus can and will help shape all our expectations for the future if we put our hope and trust in Him today. https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Dave-Frodsham-Christmas-Expectations.mp3 The post Dave Frodsham: Christmas expectations first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…

Sylvia talks about the true meaning of Christmas: it’s not about parties or presents. It’s about being closer to God. After Adam’s fall in the garden of Eden, which cost him many things, we were separated from God because of our sins. However, although we spent hundreds of years far away from God, we have been brought closer to Him through the birth and then the death of Jesus. Jesus rescued us. He came so that we may be saved and that is what Christmas is about. https://jubileechurchwirral.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Sylvia-Billington-The-Principals-of-the-Kingdom-of-God.mp3 The post Sylvia Billington: The principles of the Kingdom of God first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral .…
