November, 1991. Danny Rolling is charged with five counts of murder, crimes that occurred over the course of four days in August 1990 in Gainesville, Florida. His crimes extended to a triple homicide, sexual assault, and even an attempted murder. He became known as the Gainesville Ripper. In 1996, Wes Craven unleashed a new slasher film named Scream, which flipped horror on its ear and launched a new franchise, this film was written by Kevin Williamson… who drew his inspiration from the crimes of one Daniel Harold Rolling.

Check your windows and lock your doors because Scream is inspired by a true story.

Scream is a 1996 film centered around Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), one year after her mother's death, who is being stalked and murdered along with her friends by a masked slasher. As Sidney pursues the truth, along with Deputy Dewey (David Arquette) and ferocious reporter Gail Weathers (Courteney Cox), how many more of her friends will have to die? Scream co-starred Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Jamie Kennedy, Drew Barrymore, and Ghostface's voice was the infamous Roger Jackson. Wes Craven directed this horror classic, written by Kevin Williamson, and this film was most certainly inspired by a true story.
