In this episode of I’ll Allow It Nevada, we welcome Chief Judge Cynthia Leung of the Las Vegas Municipal Court to the studio to explore the transformative work of the Women In Need Of Change (WIN) Court. A trauma-responsive specialty court, WIN Court offers chronic women offenders the tools and support needed to address the root causes of their behaviors. Chief Judge Leung shares how the program empowers participants to rebuild their lives, break the cycle of recidivism, and embark on a path toward recovery, independence, and lasting change.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Distinguish the purpose and structure of the WIN Court and how it addresses the unique needs of chronic women offenders in Las Vegas.
  2. Identify the trauma-responsive approach used by the WIN Court to address the underlying issues of trauma, substance abuse, and mental health that contribute to criminal behavior.
  3. Recognize the key components and requirements of the WIN Court program, including the commitment participants make and the steps they must take toward recovery and rehabilitation.
  4. Explain the impact of the WIN Court on reducing recidivism and empowering women to transform their lives through education, therapy, and vocational training.
