Here we are. We’ve arrived. Boom. It’s Christmas Day. So let me kick off our time together by wishing you, and all those whom you love, a truly blessed Christmas – because whatever your situation, whatever your circumstances, today is such an incredibly special day … for you.

Okay, so you’ve celebrated a good many Christmases before this one. Perhaps they’re even becoming a tad … hum drum. But Christmas, albeit an annual celebration that ticks over on the calendar at the same time each year, is so much more than that.

Let me ask you … if God wanted to get your attention, if He wanted to speak to you, if He wanted you to know just how much He loves you, how best could He do that? What would that look like? Well, it’d look rather a lot like what we celebrate each Christmas.

John 1:14 And the Word [Jesus] became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. (NRSV)

Why does John refer to Jesus as “the Word”? Because Jesus, the Son of God, is God speaking to us in a language that we can understand. Jesus is God reaching out to us in a deeply personal and intimate way – to you and to me – saying, “This is who I am. This is how much I love you, that I would send my only Son so that you can know me. So that, by believing in what He did through His death on that Cross, you could be forgiven. So that through His resurrection, you could have a new life, an abundant life, an eternal life”.

Jesus.

He is God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
