This is Gustavo, writing this podcasts summary. I felt the need to write this as an homage to the truly last Emporer of French Fashion. As you all know, Karl Lagerfeld passed away about a week or so ago, and with that comes the end of a tremendous legacy, an innovative designer, and lastly perhaps the last FASHION designer ever left. Obviously, not discrediting any of the currently established designers but Karl Lagerfeld was on his league of his own. Over 50 years as a designer and an extensive resume, that Lagerfeld shaped the fashion world of the 20th and 21st century. Helming the French Houses of Chanel, Chloé, Fendi and his own. He truly understood the demands of the clientele.
I can say with all honesty that the Chanel Haute Couture and Martier's d'Art shows were the most inspiring. Lagerfeld really pushed the envelope for the brand, always finding new ways to reinterpret the houses DNA. Showing us new ways to wear tweed, the combination of black and white, and the many ways to accessorize jewelry. A big Bravo! to the production team. They have turned the Grand Palais into many amazing production sets that were well paired with each collection. Which was your favorite? The Chanel Grocery Store? Versailles Gardens? The inside of a casino? Passitirere? the iceberg? or the feeling of sitting under the Eiffel Tower? Whichever it is, they are surely embedded in our minds.
But for the rest of us that never truly met him and only know of him through videos, print and social media, we have his legacy to inspire us for the next 50 years. Lagerfeld would have wanted the current fashion designers to keep looking forward, and that is what we will do.
