A surge in mental health needs and staff shortages have stretched school resources to support students with the potential for violence. In the wake of the shooting, three-quarters of Black Americans say they are concerned that they or someone they love will be attacked because of their race. Two years after George Floyd’s death followed by a summer of protests, a majority of Black Americans feel there has been little improvement in how police treat Black people.
