China concluded 2023 with a sweeping military purge, investigating 11 senior military officials, including former commanders and vice-commanders of the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Rocket Force as well as the former Air Force chief. The latest purge followed the dismissal of Defence Minister Li Shangfu in October, indicating a strong commitment to military reforms.

Simultaneously, top executives of China's three major state-owned military-industrial enterprises—China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, China Ordnance Industries Group Corporation Limited (or Norinco Group), and China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation—are also under investigation.
