Eind april was, op Noord- en Zuid-Holland na, geheel Nederland bevrijd. De Canadezen lagen langs de Grebbelinie en de Afsluitdijk in stelling, terwijl in West-Nederland de hongersnood om zich heen greep. Omdat een verovering van het gebied als een kostbare onderneming werd gezien, besloten de geallieerden te onderzoeken of er andere mogelijkheden waren om voedsel en hulpgoederen naar West-Nederland te krijgen…
