April 2022’s Dante’s Old South

In this episode we interview the winners of the Southern Collective Experience’s Asian American chapbook contest:

1st Place: Monica Kim is a queer writer and organizer. Born in South Korea, she now lives in Brooklyn, New York. She won the inaugural Jane Kenyon Chapbook Prize Award for her series of multiverse poems and her writing has been published in A Velvet Giant, Pollux Journal, The Account, and others. You can find her on Twitter at @kimmonjoo.

2nd Place: Kailee Pedersen is the author of essays, poetry, and speculative fiction. She graduated from Columbia University in 2017 with a B.A. in Classics, specializing in Ancient Greek and was adopted from Nanning in 1996. Her poetry has appeared in Arcturus, Muse/A Journal, Sonora Review, and is forthcoming in They Rise Like A Wave: An Anthology of Asian American Women Poets. She is a two-time Pushcart nominee and the recipient of a 2015 Individual Artist Fellowship in Nonfiction from the Nebraska Arts Council, among other awards. https://www.kaileepedersen.com/

3rd Place Betsy Aoki is a poet and video game producer whose debut poetry collection, Breakpoint was a National Poetry Series finalist and winner of the Patricia Bibby First Book Award.
