Daniel Bélanger l’a souvent dit: sans Marc Déry, «Rêver mieux» n’aurait pas été le même album. Fanny Bloom raconte comment cette rencontre entre Déry et Bélanger a été déterminante pour la suite. Autant en solo qu’avec son groupe Zébulon, Marc Déry s’amuse, à la fin des années 1990, avec des sonorités inspirées du courant trip-hop, ce qui inspire grandement des artistes comme Daniel Bélanger et Dumas qui veulent eux aussi décloisonner le son québécois. Avec le réalisateur Carl Bastien, Daniel Bélanger ose musicalement. Ensemble, ils planchent sur l’album concept de musique électronique «Déflaboxe», mais mettent finalement le projet de côté pour se consacrer à la création de «Rêver mieux».
