Jonathan Clements was formerly a Visiting Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, China. He is a historian specialising in the Far East, whose recent books include The Emperor's Feast: A History of China in Twelve Meals; Christ's Samurai: The True Story of the Shimabara Rebellion, and Japan at War in the Pacific. British-born, he is now a citizen of Finland, and has also written a book about his adopted country, An Armchair Traveller's History of Finland (which he is currently updating for the paperback), as well as an acclaimed biography of its wartime leader Carl Gustaf Mannerheim, Mannerheim: President, Soldier, Spy. Most accounts of Mannerheim concentrate on his battles in the 1940s, when he led Finland against the incursions of the Soviet Union, but Clements's book focussed instead on his early career as a Finn in the Tsar's military service, fighting in the Russo-Japanese War and conducting a two-year uncover spying mission in China, posing as a Swedish anthropologist. For reasons nobody quite comprehends, he embarked upon a project on his blog to watch every Finnish film ever made, in chronological order. https://schoolgirlmilkycrisis.com/tag/finland/ https://www.amazon.com/Jonathan-Clements/e/B001IR1BJS/ For more educational content, visit us at https://culturecaffe.com.
