Manage episode 422839005 series 3439270
Tea & Mortgage w/ John Coleman, Ireland’s favourite mortgage broker would like to sit down with you to share a cup of tea and chat about the state of the mortgage and property market.
In this episode, Irish mortgage broker John Coleman and co-host Norm Schriever talk about the recent decision by the European Central Bank to cut interest rates by a quarter point.
For those who aren’t aware, the European Central Bank cut its key interest rate to 3.75 percent from 4 percent on June 6, the first time it has cut rates since 2019.
The E.C.B. started raising interest rates in July 2022, a few months after the Fed, ending its era of negative rates. The increase, half a percentage point, was the first of 10 straight for the European bank, taking rates to the highest level in the bank's history.
So, today in this episode John talks about the ramifications in the Ireland mortgage market, what affect it may have on home prices and demand, and the possibility and timing of more rate cuts in 2024 and 2025.
