Thorgerdur, Merete and me are sitting down for a talk about running exhibition spaces, archaeology, Iceland, art politics and her show at Demon's Mouth. Þorgerður Ólafsdóttir lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland. She graduated with Bachelor of Fine Arts from Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2009 and received Masters of Fine Art from Glasgow School of Art in 2013. Þorgerður’s practice is concerned with ideas and definitions of identity and place and the field of systems we use to understand the natural world. She is interested in the process of adapting and translating both physical and subjective experience to other fields of reference with symbolic and graphic language. Þorgerður is the Director of the Living Art Museum in Reykjavík and sits on the board of Sequences Real Time Art Festival and Reykjavík Art Festival. She is the co-curator of Staðir / Places, biannual art project and residency in the westfjords. (from her website at http://www.thorgerdurolafsdottir.net/) Merete Mortensen is one of the curators/gallerist at gallery Demon's Mouth in Oslo who invited Thorgerdur for an exhibition. There it is Constance Tenvik and also the last episode of The Frido Show. It has been a fun ride but after 10 years I decided it was time to retire the project. To go out with a bang Constance Tenvik was so gracious to share this moment with me. There is a waterfall of topics; from Mozart to murals, from studio 11 to artistic universes. Enjoy and thanks for all the years! @constancetenvikstudio @constancetenvik…

'To think with the wrong metaphor is as easy as riding a bike with the wrong frame size' Ragnhild and me talk about how to create meaning and her text and image related research that lead her to her works. This takes us to search engines, Kunstnerforbundet, Berlin, Demon's Mouth, Detroit, Podium and Bejing. A cow's tongue is also mentioned. Enjoy!…

"It is amazing light, but there is not enough of it, right.." We talked about the light in February in the British museum. Walking down a rock and Espen's path to his current practice. If you want to see his work go see his it at Kunstnerforbundet now! It is so worth it. Also the 11th of Oktober a publication attached to the show will be released there. Go get it! It was an absolute delight sitting down in his studio in Oslo for this talk. http://espengleditsch.com/Espen_Gleditsch/index.html https://kunstnerforbundet.no/kunstnere/982/espen-gleditsch https://kunstnerforbundet.no/arrangementer…

How to live in a time where the climate crisis is hanging over us. Mikkel is making a movie called Alva Heibergs korte liv (the short live of Alva Heiberg). The main character is played by Eili Harboe. The movie tells the story of a young woman who is trying to understand how to live in a time where the climate crisis is acute and a lot seems to be at stake. I was lucky enough to play a little role in it as well. We talk about the movie, how the current situation has it's impact on the production of it. We talk about the climate, 2030, how to grow into the role of the director, we talk about his involvement in the green party, and David Bowie. Follow the project on facebook and make sure you watch it when it comes out! Follow the project on facebook and make sure you watch it when it comes out! https://www.facebook.com/AlvaHeiberg…

Georg Óskar is currently showing fantastic works at Noplace in Oslo. It's there were we sat down for our conversation, stepping into the magic pool of process, painting and being an artist in these strange times. His show is up until the first week of Oktober at Noplace. Go see it! http://noplace.no/fragments/your-dream-is-dead/ You can check out his other work at: https://www.georgoskar.com/ https://www.instagram.com/georg_oskar/…

As Norway opened up after a couple month of Covid 19 restrictions I finally was able to head over to Samoa's studio for a chat. On an exceptional warm summer day we talked about her artistic process of intense exploration. Samoa Rémy is currently a PhD fellow in artistic research at KHIO (Oslo National Academy of the Arts) We dig into the way she explores and approaches a wide range of subjects ranging from the scientific to the esoteric, from the symbolic to the historical. We talk about CERN and her residency there. Enjoy our talk! If you want to know more about Samoa's work go and check out her website. http://www.samoaremy.com/ https://arts.cern/artist/samoa-remy…

In the last days of the 2020 Corona lock down I managed to convince my studio neighbor to sit down and have a chat with me. Knut and I talk about his work and the studio. We talk about his side job at the graveyard and how that combines with his art practice. Some Corona rambling obviously gets into the mix as well. Enjoy! Check out his work at http://www.knutbenjaminsen.com/…

In order to keep my new regime of one podcast per month for obvious reasons it’s just me this time. I don’t have a format for solo talks (yet), so it ended up being a stream of consciousness triggered by this extra ordinary situation of virus lockdown. These are truly strange times. All our movements have been altered and restricted. Everywhere in the world at the same time. That’s new. Although we in the creative field are used to taking hits, this one is of a different order it seems. Enjoy my rambling stay positive and I would love to hear from you if you have any question comment. Just send me an email to podcast@fridoshow.com I hope you all are safe and sound out there!…

I encountered Øyvind’s work and work spirit for the first time during his master at KhiO in Oslo. From the start I was captivated by his style and universe, so it was a real pleasure to enter Øyvind's studio again to have coffee and talk art, studio and movies. He just did two brilliant solo exhibitions. One at Brandstrup in Oslo and another one at BGE in Stavanger. Enjoy the talk! http://www.brandstrup.no/exhibitions/vacation-time http://www.bgeart.com/exhibitions/skreddertimen…

Nelis is here! I've known this guy for almost 20 years now and have been following, collecting and promoting what this stubborn guy is up to. We talk about his (upcoming)exhibition >> A L L O N E << at Noplace which opens Friday the 24th of May here in Oslo. Go see it! http://www.nelisvanhulten.nl/ http://moussemagazine.it/nelis-van-hulten-demonsmouth-oslo/…

I ran into Lars a couple of years back at Vintage guitar shop in downtown Oslo. He had a workshop there for a while which I couldn't resist entering. That brought us to developing jigs for guitar-making together. He has a wonderful shop in Oslo where he does repairs and restorations and building guitars. Check him out! He is an incredible nice guy and tremendously skilled. Enjoy our talk! https://www.gitarmakerdalin.com/ https://www.instagram.com/gitarmakerdalin/…

Just in town for a couple of weeks Gereon made it over to my podcast studio. He arrived a bit shaken and in shock of having witnessed a car accident where a woman died. We both didn't really know how to address it but we send our love to the family and friends of the woman who died. Then we spoke about the groupshow he organized at Fellesverkstedet for Praksis Oslo named Monumental — Temporal // The Work. Sculpture, studio, production and all that jazz. https://gereonkrebber.net…

Before the summer I had the pleasure to talk to Charlotte Hagelund. Together with Jan Christensen she started the consulting platform called Hagelund/Christensen. They are looking to find new structures and business models for visual arts that will create a healthier art industry, in which far more people be able to access and appreciate art, and where artists get the support they need to focus and evolve in what they do best; making art. This theme of improving the lives of artists and finding different and more healthy strategies is very dear to my heart so I hope you enjoy our talk! http://www.hagelundchristensen.com/…

Sveinn's work has this urge to map, to collect, to categorize without being too much of a statement. These observation although often based in photography become installations, publications, sculptures and the likes. We also talk about how his publishing relates to his practice and what it means to be a publisher. Check out his work and read his books! http://johannsson.org/…

If you ever wondered how it is to chase a dream and actually realizing it the people at Fellesverkstedet are doing just that! I managed to snatch Graham from the amazing new facility at Seilduksgaten in Oslo. Since the building site wasn't legally fit to use for the podcast we decided to go to the current center of operation in old town (Tøyen). In the two hours that followed he talked me through much of the history and how they arrived at this exciting new junction for fellesverkstedet. Follow their progress at https://www.fellesverkstedet.no/…
