In today’s episode, let’s take a moment to contemplate what our RE:INVENTION could be during this quieter time of the year. As you are getting ready to celebrate the holidays with friends and loved ones, take a moment to step back and reflect on all that has gone on in the last year.

I’m going to share some tools you can use as you reflect on where you are right now, what you're looking for, where you want to take yourself, and your next steps ahead.

Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

  • Map out your journey with pen & paper
  • Make a list of the things you’re grateful for
  • Make a list of the things you want to do in the next few weeks
  • What do you want to be when you grow up?

Episode Highlights:

Power Tool #1: Map out your journey.

Sit quietly with these questions, along with a notebook and a pen. Writing pen to paper helps you clarify your thoughts, remember things better, and reach goals more surely. Writing by hand provides a complex cognitive process involving neuro sensory experiences and fine motor skills. It is linked to improving creativity and critical thinking. It also leads to problem-solving by encouraging unstructured thinking and activating the creative side of your brain.

Now ask yourself these questions. Are you happy? If not, when was the last time you felt truly happy at work, in your relationship, as a parent, or with yourself? What do you most look forward to when you wake up every morning? Is it a place, a person, an activity, or an experience? Do you make time for it every single day? What can you do or add or explore in your life to stir your soul and put a skip in your step?

How will your journey look? What obstacles do you need to clear out of the way? What are your short and long-term, big and small goals? Who and/or what do you need to surround yourself with to accomplish these goals?

Power Tool #2: Make some lists.

Make a list of 10 things that put a smile on your face or have nurtured your soul in the last few weeks. Notice where they occurred, who you were with, and why they made you feel good. You'd be surprised at how much you take those things for granted. Also, make a list of 10 things that you want to do in the next few weeks that will realistically fit into your life routine. Give yourself something to smile about. Your happiness is the destination. So go for it.

Power Tool #3: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Reflect on where you've been, who you are, what you used to dream of, and all the things that have fallen by the wayside. Close your eyes and think of what you used to imagine your life would be like one day. Give yourself permission to dream as you did when you were a child. What did you want to be when you grew up? What activities do you spend hours and hours doing? Where did your imagination take you? When did you drift away from those dreams and why?
