In this week's episode we have Angela Franco, President and CEO of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce. Their mission is to be the most valuable resource and leading advocate for businesses in the nations capital, Washington, DC. She was born in Berkeley, California and moved back to Bogota, Colombia when she was one year old. Entrepreneurial at a young age, she started selling jewelry at 11 years old and created Christmas cards that she sold to her family and neighbors. Learned about margin in a business when her father was her first investor and with those funds she was able to purchase jewelry wholesale and sell them retail. Angela finished all of her schooling and Masters in Colombia deciding to move to the United States in her early 30's and start from scratch in a new country. It was a humbling experience even though she had years of experience in the financial industry back home. She now has decades of knowledge working with various financial institutions and business chambers in executive leadership roles. Angela mentions how if you focus on building a career you are always going to have a job. She shares the strategic plan the D.C. Chamber of Commerce has developed with their four main pillars, government relations, programs, communication, and marketing - focusing on helping local businesses grow! Angela talks about the the value in having mentors and your network, and how you can cultivate them!
