Cops & Spooks - Why we treat them so differently (Part Two)
Black Spy Podcast - Season 7, Episode 0002
Season 7, continues with part 2 of the question that Carlton King and Firgas Esack posed - why police are perceived, and indeed treated, much less favourably than secret intelligence and national security officers (spies - known colloquially in the UK as spooks).
To answer this question Firgas looks at the way her profession (journalism) treats the police and Carlton suggests that class may well be a reason for this, taking into account that uniquely Carlton has experienced this difference having been a senior player in both the Police and the Secret Intelligence Service.
As with last week’s opening show for Season 7, the show delves into the geo-politics of class. Hence in both episodes Carlton and Firgas are at pains to fully exploit and explore the question in all its guises – perceived blue collar verses white collar, national importance verses the mundane. Its all discussed.
Another great Black Spy Podcast listen. And as always, I hope you like it.
