This episode is about my favorite philosophers of all time. Espiranza Baroch (benedict) Spanoza. He is the greatest philosopher of all time in my opinion and one of the greatest in the opinion of many much more important people than I. It was even said that "post Spinoza one is either a Spinozist or no kind of philosopher at all."
Even though his focus was using logic to reduce suffering; his books were banned in the freest country in the world at the time (Holland) because what he believed AND practiced was apparently blasphemous.
He is described as both an atheist and a god obsessed man. Though Jewish by blood he is one of only 2 people in all of history to be excommunicated by Judaism and remains excommunicated to this day. Which is interesting because his explanation of his metta-physics seem to come almost directly from the Kabbala and Jewish Mysticism. Its these conflicting ad confusing tales we dive into to uncover what exactly this enigmatic man actually believed and why its more important today than ever.
(hint: he blends the use of intellect with spirituality & mysticism flawlessly.
