Sylvia Beachy and KK Emmett, of Rescue The Fosters, joined Sally Hendrick's podcast, Shout Your Cause, to talk about their organization's mission to give foster children a voice and provide resources to those who have aged out of the system. Sylvia worked in various roles in the foster care system and noticed that children did not have a voice and were considered liars when they tried to speak up about their experiences. She started Rescue The Fosters to give children in foster care a voice and offer resources to those who have aged out. KK, who aged out of the system, shared her experience witnessing many problems in the foster care system but keeping quiet to avoid confrontations. She emphasized the importance of not leaving foster children alone and defending for themselves after they age out of the system. The conversation touched on the system's flaws, such as the pressure to bring in more children and the rushed nature of teaching independent living skills to those aging out.
