En quittant l’Afrique, le berceau de l’humanité, une petite population d’homo sapiens a été à l’origine du premier effet fondateur. Les humains qui ont migré vers l’Asie ou l’Europe présentent une moins grande diversité génétique que ceux qui sont restés sur le continent africain. On retrouve aujourd’hui une plus grande prévalence des maladies génétiques chez ces populations. Un nouvel outil chimique prometteur, le CRISPR Cas9, pourrait toutefois bientôt corriger certaines mutations de l’ADN, dont celle causant la tyrosinémie.
