Anthony got out of the military (US Marine Corp) and had his first encounter with Outward Bound on one of their veteran courses. He found himself out of the military and now an 8th grade teacher struggling with his transition into civilian life. He reached out to Outward Bound to see what it would take for him to get involved and become an instructor. He has been there for six years now. He has found his purpose and fulfillment giving back to others. Outward Bound isn’t just an organization that takes you outdoors to see pretty things. They also have a curriculum and goals while being out in nature. They help other learn how to disconnect and to disconnect with a purpose, work on their communication, leadership, helping yourself, and goal setting to mention a few.
Anthony talking about the beauty and magnitude of nature really hit home with me. Reminds me off when I was trying to find beauty in the world again. I found myself in a position in life where I didn’t know what “I” liked or enjoyed doing. I had no real hobbies or passions. I sat down and tried to make a list of things I thought I enjoyed. I slowly marked them all off the list because they were flops until I got to a quick trip to Alaska I did. I saw a moose, 3 glaciers and the northern lights in a span of 4 days. I was blow away at the shocking beauty of nature and the powerful sensations of joy it sparked in me.
