Warnick was the 17th in line when he inherited a dukedom. It was five years later when he found out he had an adult ward. If he didn’t brush off his solicitor, pretending not to care about the title, then he would have known earlier.
His ward, Lillian, made the scandal sheets after a faux reveal of a nude portrait by someone she loved. After the narcissist’s stunt, his shaming of her did get him punched a lot.
Getting married was Warnick’s answer to save Lillian’s reputation. Although she just wanted to run away, she still went to balls. Wearing a dog dress may not have helped the cause, but she met the Talbot sisters and they became fast friends who would help her whenever she needed it.
