In today’s episode it’s time to take a look at YOUR health and wellness a bit. Feeling GOOD is paramount in order to have a sound mind to train and raise our dogs with as many positive reinforcement vibes as possible! Just as over 80% of dog aggression cases are pain related, human pain can make it hard for the human to make good decisions as well.

The Inspire Dog Podcast Host, Ben Rimbey, is not only a professional dog trainer, but spent 12 years selling and fitting quality comfort shoes for customers who had food problems and more. Let’s take a deep dive on the basics to look for in shoes for dog sports, walking, training, and more!

Some of Ben’s top shoe picks:

* Everyone’s feet are different shapes and sizes. Your body will like shoes that mine possibly won’t. Although I like shoes within a brand, my feet don’t like every style from any brand. My feet like particular shoes from many of these quality brands. All about finding the right ones for you! *

• Keen Hightrail EXP Waterproof (Ben’s Waterproof shoe choice for himself this year). Keen Versacore Speed (Ben’s non-waterproof trail runner/super light hiking type choice for himself this year). Also the Keen Targhee’s are classic hiking shoes from Keen and you can’t go wrong with a classic. Most Keens are awesome.

•Merrell’s are typically good shoes too. The Moab’s are their classic ones that fit many people well. The agility peak shoes look intriguing too.

•Teva Grandview boots and shoes were always a hidden gem from a company most people think of for just sandals. These are insanely comfortable for many. Available in waterproof and non. Both mens and women’s sizing.

•Brooks Trail Runners have been really nice. Not many waterproof options, but sometimes available. If you like running shoes, the Ghost is a classic running shoe from them that comes in waterproof variations at times (runs small). Brooks only makes quality shoes.

•New Balance has a wide variety of shoes. The make low, medium and high end shoes. Their high end shoes are as good or better than any brand on the market. So the original MSRP is important for New Balance. You can’t find clearance deals but if you want a really good one it’ll usually be $130+ original msrp. They have a variety of running shoes, trail runners, cross trainers, and walking shoes. You’ll be able to find high support features in some too, along with multiple width options. I could fit any food narrow to triple wide with a new balance.

•Hoka’s will either be the best shoe you’ve ever tried on or the absolute worst. The feet that love them really love that cushion. That amount of cushion can be a bit unstable on uneven surfaces. They also have a lower heel height too of 4-6mm typically which is quite a bit less than the 8-12mm’s in most athletic shoes.

•No Bull’s are a very cool newer brand for cross training and court type shoes. I’d recommend for agility and any side to side motion sports. Also great for strength training.

•Altra’s are great if you’re looking for the barefoot styled shoes but with a little more under the sole. These shoes are 0 heel height, so they can take some getting used to.

•The best barefoot shoe in my option is the MT10 and WT 10’s from New Balance. It looks like the have some new interesting Minimus shoes as well. The Merrell Trail Glove is also a GOATED barefoot trail shoe. However, there are other options out there too!
