The Montreal podcast that asks journalist, authour and documentarian Julian Sher: “What makes your dad rad?” – that question asked by the Rad Dad himself, Walter J. Lyng

I’ll be honest – I was a little worried about having Julian Sher on the podcast. Go Plug Yourself is a show that by and large keeps things light. All of my co-hosts are comedians. Meanwhile, Julian Sher has made a career of investigating murders, organized crime, child abuse, terrorists, drug dealers and even the Ku Klux Klan.

Would the show be too serious?

My fears were unfounded – even if Julian literally just released a documentary about drugs and violence that occurred in Montreal’s history literally down the street from where I currently live. Julian’s latest documentary Kings of Coke on Crave delves into Montreal’s notorious West End Gang, a dark part of Montreal’s history. We talk about the broad notes of the documentary (don’t worry, there are plenty of surprises still in store for you when you check it out), touch on Julian’s journey as a journalist and wax philosophical about what it means to make big choices.

The documentary is fantastic and you should definitely watch it with your mother-in-law when she tells you that things are so much more violent now than they used to be in the good old days. Just me? Kings of Coke is streaming exclusively now on Crave.

Enjoy the show!

Inés Anaya never stops finding ways to be funny: writing for Hindwing Press and The Beaverton, running shows like Stand Up Story Slam and getting on the mic at comedy shows all over the city when it is legally possible to do so.
