The new home design center is the most overlooked and expensive part of buying a new home. I would say that this is the number one way new home buyers lose the most money - because they are not focused and do not have a written game plan of what they want. Most home buyers go into the design center and get emotional over all the beautiful upgrades. Of course, this is right were the builders want you.
If you want to save money in the new home design center you need to start before you write a contract on the new home. Walk through the model home (or even better - an inventory home) and start asking the builder rep a lot of question about what's upgraded and what's standard. And don't forget to get a detailed upgrade sheet from the builder rep.
