Bóreas y el sol, una fábula de Esopo sobre la persuasión

Discutían los dioses Bóreas y el Sol sobre sus poderes:

– ¡Yo soy mucho más poderoso que tú. ¿Acaso no ves lo que puedo hacer cuando soplo con fuerza? ¡Levanto tsunamis, avivo incendios, destruyo ciudades enteras! – decía Bóreas con determinación.

– Contemplo tu fuerza, amigo Bóreas, y sé de lo que eres capaz cuando te enfadas… pero deja que te diga que mi fuerza es mayor que la tuya.

– ¡Demuéstramelo!

– De acuerdo, no discutamos más. Aquel que consiga despojar de las ropas al primer caminante que encontremos, será el más poderoso.

– ¡Eso es sencillo!- respondió el fanfarrón de Bóreas.

Así, en cuanto vieron aparecer a un hombre, comenzó el reto. Bóreas era el primero. Empezó a soplar y a soplar, y el ropaje del hombre empezó a levantarse. Pero entonces Bóreas quiso soplar más fuerte, pues estaba muy enfadado, y el hombre, como tenía frío, sacó una manta de su bolsa y se tapó más. Bóreas entonces se dio por vencido.

– Ahora es tu turno- le dijo al Sol.

El Sol entonces comenzó a alumbrar con un poco más de intensidad. El hombre sintió calor y se quitó la manta. Poco a poco, el Sol fue aumentando su fuerza de forma gradual. El hombre entonces ya no aguantó más y se quitó la ropa para lanzarse al río y refrescarse un poco.

Bóreas reconoció entonces que el Sol podía ser más poderoso sin necesidad de usar la fuerza.

Moraleja: «Usa la persuasión antes que la fuerza, pues es mucho más efectiva y poderosa»

Boreas and the sun, an Aesop fable about persuasion

The gods Boreas and the Sun discussed their powers:

- I am much more powerful than you. Can't you see what I can do when I blow hard? I raise tsunamis, I fan fires, I destroy entire cities! - Boreas said with determination.

- I contemplate your strength, friend Boreas, and I know what you are capable of when you get angry ... but let me tell you that my strength is greater than yours.

- Show me!

- Okay, let's not argue any more. Whoever manages to strip the clothes of the first traveler we meet will be the most powerful.

"That's simple!" Replied the boastful Boreas.

Thus, as soon as they saw a man appear, the challenge began. Boreas was the first. He started puffing and puffing, and the man's garment began to rise. But then Boreas wanted to blow harder, because he was very angry, and the man, since he was cold, took a blanket from his bag and covered himself more. Boreas then gave up.

"Now it's your turn," he said to the Sun.

The Sun then began to shine with a little more intensity. The man felt warm and pulled off the blanket. Little by little, the Sun gradually increased its strength. The man then couldn't take it anymore and took off his clothes to jump into the river and cool off a bit.

Boreas recognized then that the Sun could be more powerful without using force.
