Cisco Radio Aware Routing addresses several of the challenges faced when merging IP routing and radio communications in mobile networks, especially those exhibiting ad hoc (MANET) behavior. This technology has applications in the defense industry as well as state and local government for search and rescue, law enforcement, and disaster assessment. Our existing routing protocols such as OSPFv3 and EIGRP need to adjust their path metrics very quickly to maintain a cohesive operational network. The routing protocol also needs a way to get information from the radios, requiring a radio to router protocol that is delivered by Cisco Radio Aware Routing in the form of two open protocols, which we will discuss here. Tune in to this episode to learn how Cisco Radio Aware Routing provides capabilities that facilitate: • Optimal route selection based on cross-layer feedback from cooperating radios • Faster convergence when nodes join and leave the network • Flow-controlled communications between the radio and its partner router • Efficient integration of point-to-point, directional radio topologies with multihop routing • Neighbor Up / Down Status (3:00) History on Cisco Radio Routing (4:56) Real world applications (7:20) Potential applications in the mining sector (8:58) Other than mining, where can this be used? (9:50) How do we configure (11:44) How does this work? Where is the benefit with this routing? (15:11) What devices support this today and going forward? (17:00) In terms of metrics, when we talk about optimization there is a sensitivity of the metric. How long does the solution wait before it starts to make a decision? Which metrics would have a higher rating? (22:18) When will we see everyday use of this technology? (23:25) What can you do to support adoption of this technology? (24:21 Which radio vendors are you guys working with today? And how can we help with those radio vendors- to get them to start using this technology? (27:17) Are we building this technology into APs? (28:13) How does LTE fit in? (31:07) Is there a way to centrally manage this? (32:54) Shouldn’t we see QoE in vManage now?
