This episode has been taken from a live Q&A session with Brandt and his yoga therapy students. Many of our students who join us come from a background of years of yoga asana practice. When they start training with us, they learn a completely new set of tools, techniques, and models to help them refine and change their personal practice. This often leads to many of our students making big changes to the way they practice and teach their yoga classes as they go on this journey to become yoga therapists. This can have a profound impact on their life. Brandt is always there for his students to guide them through what they are encountering not only as a training yoga therapist but also in their own personal practice. In today’s Q&A Brandt discusses using a personal practice to overcome personal struggles and using contemplation to see them through a new lens. He also covers the issue of not being able to sit in sukhasana (seated cross leg position) for extended periods of time, why this is okay, and some alternatives. Other topics covered include creating safe sequences that help strengthen muscles and why stretching feels so good, the question of whether to work with someone who has a substance addiction and has relapsed as well as a discussion around ratio breathing and the purpose of extending exhales versus inhales in the context of yoga therapy. We hope you enjoyed this episode! Let us know in the comments or send us a message on Instagram or Facebook any key takeaways that you have. This episode covers: How can I move through family struggles with contemplation as a practice? What are alternatives to sukhasana (easy pose) for long periods of time? How can I structure an asana sequence to strengthen muscle groups in a safe & balanced way? How should I go about working with someone with an addiction who has relapsed? Why do we focus on the exhalation in certain postures? What is a balanced breath ratio count? Breathing Deeply is a Yoga Therapy and Meditation School, founded by lead teacher Brand Passalacqua in 2014. We hold online and in-person Yoga Therapy Foundations and IAYT accredited Advanced Programs and retreats along with Meditation Programs, mentor certifications and holistic weight loss with Being At Peace with Food.
