Who knew giving back could have payback? If you're tired of waiting around for that engraved invite to learn new skills, take matters into your own hands. In this episode, I show you how to gain valuable skills in the real world that have tangible results. Oh, and they might just be your career value add too.
- Upskilling is the act of learning new skills that help you perform better at your job. Skills range from technology use, to analytics/research, to soft skills and leadership.
- You only have so much bandwidth. Use it wisely by engaging in strategic volunteer opportunities that use your current skills while allowing you to cultivate new ones.
- Volunteering is your free training ground for skills you want to learn. You'll have opportunities to engage in activities at a senior level in ways you'd never get to on the job.
- Life really is a box of chocolates, you need to sample a variety of skills to get clarity on which ones you want to develop further.
