Aric is a business analyst in the Deloitte Digital Banking practice and a former City Year Corps Member for City Year Chicago where he served at the Dewey School of Excellence in Englewood. There, he focused on interventions with 18 students specifically in mathematics, streamlined classroom small group sessions, and coordinated in-kind donations to supplement school resources. Prior to joining City Year, Aric graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in environmental studies and economics. Aric is a success story from the City Year and Deloitte national recruiting pipeline where he differentiated himself from hundreds of other City Year corps members to enter the firm, and begin consulting for some of the world premier financial institutions.…
 
Casey is a former Civic Engagement Project Leader from City Year Seattle where she oversaw service projects for over 200+ volunteers, raised over $50,000, and navigated the complexities of corporate partnerships during COVID-19. Prior to joining City Year, first as an AmeriCorps Member, Casey graduated from Binghamton University with a degree in Mathematics before serving as a Medical Scribe and EMT for the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad. Casey went on to recruit with Deloitte through the City Year National Recruiting pipeline, where she has now become an outstanding member of the Digital Banking Practice, helping to rethink the way that banking institutions engage customers, design products, and integrate new products into the customer experience.…

We’ve gone ahead and compiled the best questions from our previous interviews to ask today’s guest Daniel Thompson. Daniel is a Business Development Manager for Siemens AG, a German multinational tech conglomerate where he focuses specializes in systems engineering. After graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering he would work his way through the ranks as a Systems Engineer, designing building automation systems in skyscrapers across NYC. Throughout his life he has had a similar upbringing, growing up in a social context that emphasized education. Lexi is a former Team Leader for City Year Columbia, one of City Year’s smaller, but no less impactful, sites. Prior to serving as a first-year Team Leader at Sandhills Elementary School, she graduated from the University of South Carolina in Economics & English with a 4.0 GPA, earning herself a membership to Phi Beta Kappa and earning herself the Polston Scholar Award in English. During her time at USC, she served as a leader in the Omega Phi Alpha Service Sorority and leader in New Student Orientation. Nicole is an MBA candidate at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and a former Teach for America Corps Member. Nicole graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and as a TFA Corps Member she earned her Master’s in Elementary Education and Teaching from John’s Hopkins University, before serving as a classroom teacher for the Monarch Academy Public Charter schools in Baltimore. Nicole would later move on to a teaching role at the Winpenny School, a British international school located just outside Mexico City. After multiple years in education, she pivoted towards education public policy, ending up in her most recent role pre-MBA, as a public policy fellow for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary education.…
 
Sophie Schnietz is a student at UC Berkeley, in the process of earning her Master of Architecture, and a former Peace Corps volunteer. Sophie served in Rwanda as an English Language instructor for Middle & High School Teachers at Muhazi Secondary School. Furthermore, she taught multiple sections of 7th and 8th grade students, pioneering new programs in IT, Leadership, and Gender Equality. During her time, Sophie would not only win a Small Projects Assistance Grant for 2 million Rwandan Francs, to refurbish her school’s library, but she would also go on to share her experiences with U.S. and Rwandan officials. In this episode, Sophie and I talk through her decision to join Peace Corps, the influence of the Rwandan Genocide on her service, and her evacuation from Rwanda in 2020.…
 
Michelle Rajan, Healthcare Consultant and former City Year AmeriCorps member. Michelle graduated from Muhlenberg College where she majored in Neuroscience and Creative Writing, serving as the 2021 Commencement Speaker. During her time at Muhlenberg, she was the creator and host of her own show “Continental Drift” which combined international cultures with classic rock on 91.7 WMUH, Allentown Muhlenberg College Radio Station. Zach Fishman is Director of AmeriCorps Member Experience for City Year New York. After graduating from TCNJ with a degree in Psychology, he served as development associate for a small non-profit called LifeTies which intervenes to provide care to youth in crisis due to sexual orientation, gender, and abuse. That same year, Zach would get begin his journey with City Year as an AmeriCorps member in 2014 before serving another year as Team Leader. He would later join the full-time staff in Learning & Development before coming to his current post in AmeriCorps Member experience, where he manages the service experience for 200+ AmeriCorps members annually.…
 
Kyra is a Human Capital Consulting Manager, specializing in DEI, and former City Year Corps Member, Team Leader, and Staff Member. Kyra started her service with City Year in the City of Chicago, after graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in Cultural Anthropology. After her back-to-back Corps years serving as an AmeriCorps member and then as a Team Leader, Kyra would stay with the organization as Corps Operations Manager, overseeing logistics and compliance for Corps Members in City Year Chicago. After completing a stint in executive talent acquisition, she would start her consulting career. Tom Yake is a former Corps Member and Senior Managing Director from Teach for America. Tom graduated from William and Mary as a double-major in economics and history, as a TFA Corps Member he earned a master’s in secondary education from Arizona State University while serving as lead teacher for Omega Schools in Phoenix Arizona. Tom would go on to earn another master’s in economics of education from Columbia University before returning to TFA as a Recruitment Manager. Tom would go on to rise steadily through the ranks, serving as director of recruitment for upstate New York, director of New York and New Jersey Activation, managing director of recruitment, and later Senior Managing Director of Innovation. Tom would go on to exit TFA as Consulting Manager in government and public services.…
 
Melissa is Senior Associate Director at Orr Group, a non-profit fundraising and consulting firm, where she not only advises on fundraising strategy but also serves as a frontline fundraiser, securing grants worth up to $10M for organizations like the Obama Foundation and Echoing Green. Earlier in life, Melissa graduated from American University before serving as executive assistant to Wes Moore, the currently serving 63rd Governor of Maryland. Following her tenure as an EA, she would go on to teach English in a Japanese public school for three years before serving as Individual Giving Manager for City Year New York. Elizabeth Stein is a Strategy Consulting Manager, Founder & Principal of Elizabeth Stein Consulting, former City Year staff member, and former City Year AmeriCorps member. Prior to City Year, Elizabeth graduated Magna Cum Laude from Colgate University with a degree in English & creative writing. Upon graduation, she would join City Year as an AmeriCorps member before rising steadily through the ranks, serving as a Team Leader and later Impact Manager. After City Year, Elizabeth would move on to another non-profit organization: the Genesis Foundation for Children serving as communication specialist before stepping up to the role of Marketing Manager. She would go on to earn her MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth where she gained further exposure to strategy and digital marketing.
